AZALEA (Rhododendron hybrids)
Moderately bright light is preferred. Light near a sunny window but protected from direct sun.
Moderately moist soil is best, but avoid wet soil. For pots with drainage, water again when
just the surface soil feels dry. Never allow soil to dry out completely. Temperatures found in
most homes are acceptable, but COOL locations will greatly improve the lasting quality.
Ideally, 60º-65ºF days; 59º-60ºF nights. |

In summer select location with moderately bright light (diffused sunlight), near a sunny
window but not exposed to full sun. In winter place in full sunlight.Moderately moist soil is
preferred. Water thoroughly when soil surface feels dry to the touch. Drain excess water
in saucer at base of pot to prevent root rot and protect furniture. Warm temperatures are
ideal: 70º-72ºF (21º-22ºC) day- times and 65º-70ºF (18º-21ºC) nights.
Fertilize periodically, following manufacturer's directions. KEY TIP FOR SUCCESS: Remove growing
tips (1/2") periodically to maintain rounded profile and to stimulate new growth. |

CHRISTMAS CACTUS (Schlumbergera truncata)
Moderately bright light (diffused sunlight) is preferred, near a sunny window but not exposed
to direct sun. Moderately moist soil is preferred. Water thoroughly when soil surface is
dry to the touch. Cool/Moderate temperatures are ideal: 60º-70ºF (15º-21ºC) daytimes and
55º-65ºF (13º-18ºC) nights. Fertilize periodically following manufacturer's directions.
KEY TIPS FOR SUCCESS: Flowering for the Christmas Cactus is affected by temperature and
light. Sudden temperature changes, too high or too low, may result in inconsistent flowering
or inhibit flowering altogether. |
CHRYSANTHEMUM (Chrysanthemum morifolium)
Plants with flowers in bud stages prefer bright light near a sunny window. Plants with
open flowers do well in a wide range of light conditions. Moderately moist soil is preferred.
Water thoroughly when soil surface feels dry to the touch. Drain excess water in saucer
at base of pot to prevent root rot and protect furniture. Moderate temperatures are ideal:
65º-70ºF (18º-21ºC) daytimes. Avoid excessively hot or cold areas. KEY TIP FOR SUCCESS: Placement
of plant in a cool environment at night (50º-60ºF/10º-15ºC) will help to extend the flowering period. |

CYCLAMEN(Cyclamen persicum)
Medium Light locations are preferred Light near a sunny window but protected from direct sun.
Place your hand 1 foot above the area you've chosen - you should get a distinct shadow
(ideally, 100 to 500 foot candles). Moderately Moist soil is best, hot avoid wet soil. For
pots with drainage, just the surface soil should be dry to the touch before watering again.
Temperatures found in most homes are acceptable, but cool 1ocations will greatly improve the
lasting quality. Ideally, 60º days. 50ºF nights. |
DISH GARDEN
Moderately bright light preferred. Protect thorn direct sun in summer; place near sunny window in
winter. Moderately moist soil is preferred. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Avoid
overwatering; do not allow plants to stand in water. Tropical green plants prefer warm
temperatures: 70º-72ºF (21º-22ºC) days and 65º-70ºF (18º-21ºC) nights. Avoid excess heat or cold.
Fertilize periodically, following directions of manufacturer. Special note: If fresh flowers
have been added to your dish garden in water-holding tubes keep these tubes filled with water
so the flowers will stay fresh as long as possible. KEY TIPS FOR SUCCESS: Provide good
light and avoid water- logged soil. |

FRESH CUT ROSES
On arrival: Re-cut stems with sharp knife. Condition roses in clean deep container filled with
100º water and floral preservative for 2 to 4 hours in a cool location. Remove all foliage
below water line and take care not to cut or scrape stem bark. To arrange: Use clean vase
with ample water capacity. Roses are thirsty and need lots of water. Keep vase full by adding
water daily. If arranging foam is used, saturate it thoroughly in 100º water and floral preservative.
Insert stems firmly. Display in cool location out of direct sun. Avoid any direct source of heat,
including top of TV set which is hot when set is on. |
GERANIUM (Pelargonium)
A bright light location is preferred Bedding or Zonal geranium need full sunlight for best
flowering. Moderately dry soil is preferred. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch.
Disease can be a problem if plants are overwatered. Drain excess water in saucer at base of
pot to prevent root rot and protect furniture. Cool/Moderate temperatures are ideal: 60º-70ºF
(15º-21ºC) daytimes and 55º-65ºF (13º-18ºC) nights. Martha Washington geraniums prefer
temperatures no higher than 65ºF (18ºC) daytimes and 60ºF (15ºC) nights. KEY TIP FOR SUCCESS:
Martha Washington geraniums prefer the cooler days of early summer for flowering but have
attractive foliage even when not in flower. |

HIBISCUS
Bright light is preferred. At least 4 hours of sun each day is best. Moderately moist soil
is preferred. Water thoroughly when soil surface feels dry to the touch. Average room
temperatures of 70ºF (21ºC) days and 60º-65ºF (15º-18ºC) nights. Avoid excessively
hot or cold areas. KEY TIPS FOR SUCCESS: Pinching back new growth will promote bushiness.
Fewer flowers are produced during fall and winter. |
HYDRANGEA (Hydrangea macrophylla)
A bright location is preferred. Avoid full sunlight but keep near a sunny Keep soil
uniformly moist at all times. Check often and water thoroughly. Never allow soil to dry out.
Hydrangeas have a large water requirement. Drain excess water in saucer at base of pot to prevent
root rot. Moderate temperatures are ideal: 65º-70ºF (18º-21ºC) daytimes. Avoid excessively hot

maintain soil on the moist side at all times but don't allow plant to stand in water.

and 65º-70ºF (18º-21ºC) nights. Avoid excessively hot or cold areas. Fertilize periodically,
following manufacturer's directions. KEY TIPS FOR SUCCESS: Spathiphyllums enjoy standing
in a saucer of moist gravel. Use a soil high in organic content when repotting. |
